"Castledermot"
Was established in 1866 by john Buckley, John passed the farm onto his wife when he passed away.
Margaret Elizabeth Buckley passed the farm onto their only child Mary Kate Buckley. The next person to own and run the farm was Gustino Lizza. Mary Buckley was Gustino's foster mother as she took him under her wing when he first came to Australia in 1926 at the age of 16. So in retrospect, the farm has been in the one family for over 150 years.
In the 1970's Gustino, his elder son Benneamino (Benny) and middle son Michael started G. Lizza and sons a family partnership.  Michael still runs the farm trading under the same name.
"Castledermot" was fully self-sufficient in the Buckley's time, and partly in Gustino time, however, as time went by all that remained was the vegetable garden.
In this modern world, where everything is going at full speed, I take stock and look back at how our ancestors lived. As people, we need to some times remember and achieve a quieter life. The farm is primely a cattle farm now.
We have replanted the orchard and have started planting Australian native indigenous to our location. We grow and produce a significant portion of our food and have always tried to live a simple, happy life.
I continually hear arguments about whether we should eat meat, become vegetarian or vegan. The problem is not what people choose to eat, as the world could not sustain everyone if we kept to one food source.
We need to start producing as much of our food that our home environment will sustain and stop relying on producers and supermarkets to provide us will all our food. There is a possibility that there may not be enough food for everyone in the future unless we start taking some responsibility for growing our own.
